1

Why work with a reproductive psychiatrist?

Reproductive psychiatry is relatively a new subfield of psychiatry that emerged in response to the growing body of evidence supporting the need for specialized considerations when caring for women in reproductive/hormonal transitions, such as during menstrual cycles, throughout pregnancy and postpartum, as well as in perimenopausal years. General psychiatrists often refer their patients to consult with a reproductive psychiatrist for expert recommendations on treatment for mental health conditions related to hormonal shifts, especially in cases where there are complicated risks involved. Reproductive psychiatrists can go over these risks in detail and support the patient in the treatment decision making process. They can also coordinate care with OB/GYNs and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists when necessary.

Do you also treat men if you specialize in women's mental health?

Yes, Dr. Park is board certified to treat all adults with general psychiatric conditions.

4

What can I expect for my first visit?

The initial evaluation is approximately 90 minutes in length and is meant to be a comprehensive assessment of your presenting problems in the context of your biological, psychological, and social history. This is only the starting point to getting to know you, and to see if we would be a good fit for working together. For a thorough assessment, it is often necessary to obtain additional information from those who know you well, such as your family or other health care providers. In this case, we will ask for your permission to contact such person or entity after the visit, and arrange a follow up visit with you to share our clinical impression and treatment recommendations. We will then discuss our options carefully, and come up with the best plan for treatment in a collaborative way to get you feeling better!

5

How would I know if the medication treatment is right for me?

Not everyone needs medication treatment, and medications by themselves are certainly not the cure for all types of problems. Dr. Park reserves the use of medications for situations when it is clinically appropriate and the potential benefits of these tools outweigh the known risks. These will be discussed with you following a full evaluation of your symptoms, level of distress, and clinical history, and on an on-going basis to reassess whether to continue, discontinue or switch the medications if started. Our goal is to empower you with the information necessary to make the best decision for your treatment and well being.

Follow up visits for medication management are typically 30 minutes in length. Initially, the visits may be frequent (e.g. every 2 weeks) to closely titrate the medication to the therapeutic dose. Thereafter, the visits may be spaced out (e.g every 1-3 months) depending on the level of response, stability and the type of medication.

6

What type of psychotherapy do you provide?

Dr. Park has been trained in various psychotherapeutic approaches, such as psychodynamic (insight oriented) psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). When appropriate, Dr. Park integrates techniques and strategies from different psychotherapeutic modalities to tailor the treatment process to the individual's unique presentation and psychological orientation.

Psychotherapy visits are typically 45 minutes in length, and best if recur on a weekly basis.

7

What are your fees?

The fees vary depending on the type of service requested. Please contact our office to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of care. Once appointment is scheduled, the payment is expected at the time of service, and we accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover), HSA card, and ACH bank transfers.

8

Will my insurance pay for treatment?

We are an out-of-network provider, and we do not claim insurance for a direct payment. However, you may be reimbursed for our services if you have out-of-network benefits under your health plan. We have made this process easier for our patients to navigate by partnering with Reimbursify, which can facilitate submitting and tracking claims. The reimbursable amount will depend on factors such as your deductible and co-insurance. To learn exactly what your benefits are, you can check the online portal of your insurance company or call them directly. Alternatively, we can check on your behalf and explain to you how your benefits may apply to our services during a complementary 15 minute consultation call prior to scheduling the appointment.

What are the benefits to seeing a psychiatrist out of network?

When a provider is in-network with an insurance company, there are certain agreements made between the insurer and the provider that can often direct or place limitations on how the provider might treat the patient. By not having these logistical hurdles as an out-of-network provider, we can spend more time actually focusing on you and deliver the best quality care you deserve. This means, face-to-face time during the visit can be longer for us to adequately address your concerns and have room for a more comprehensive treatment approach. We can also have capacity for flexible scheduling (including almost no wait time for the initial intake) and prompt responses to your inquiries between visits. Additionally, by paying for services out of pocket, you may choose to keep your mental health records more private and separate from other health information that the insurance company may maintain about you, if that's important to your circumstances.
